North Carolina Team
North Carolina Director and Nature Teacher
Sarah Spencer was born and raised in Raleigh, NC. She was a professional nanny and elder caregiver for 10 years prior to coming to Wild Beginnings. Sarah has a Montessori background and grew up sailing and camping all over Eastern North Carolina. Her favorite pastimes are travel, camping, music and above all else, spending time with family. Sarah is married to Seth, they have one son, Hayes and the world's most perfect dog, Toby. She’s a formidable bargain shopper and late night furniture re-arranger, but is most passionate about working with children and spending time outdoors. She believes that there is something magical about being in the woods and that watching children experience the magic of nature will never get old.
Amanda Hanlon was born and raised in Johnston County, NC. She has previously enjoyed working with children as a program leader at a child development center and counselor at a camp for children with Autism. Amanda received her bachelor's degree in Psychology from Emory & Henry College in 2014 before completing her master's degree in Occupational Therapy at Winston Salem State University in 2016. She has enjoyed using a holistic, child led approach in her career as a pediatric occupational therapist. This approach works well with Montessori and Waldorf philosophies that guide her work as a nature teacher. In her free time she enjoys hiking with her husband, baby girl, and dog, practicing yoga, and visiting local markets. She is a believer in the magic of childhood and works every day to foster each child's unique light.
A native to coastal New England with a decade under her belt as an RDU transplant; Ms. Hannah is a full time mom taxi, forever a Red Sox fan, will 100% ask to pet your dog and usually has an iced latte in her car cup holder or in hand. She earned her degree in early childhood in 2012, has been in the field since cultivating 10+ years of experience working in a variety of spaces ranging from preschool classrooms to children’s museum education and beyond.
Hannah particularly enjoys encouraging creativity and mindfulness in young children through open ended art and play. She brings both her skill as a seasoned early educator and the young girl inside of her who grew up running about and pretending in the woods in Maine to this role with Wild Beginnings.
Hannah is raising three tiny humans; Everleigh (6), Baker (4) and Silas (1), two labradors and quite a few house plants with her long time partner Alex. As a family they enjoy spending long days at the beach, catching a baseball game, reading or adventuring together and testing out as many varieties of French fries as possible.
